Who We Are
South Sudan Educational Fund (SSEF) is a non-profit initiative founded and led by students at Waimea College in New Zealand. We are dedicated to supporting education in South Sudan through donations collected on our website and fundraising initiatives. SSEF was founded in 2024 as an enrichment class project, starting with building our website then establishing our goals and values as a charitable trust.
To the right, is our SSEF committee for 2026, meeting weekly to discuss fundraising, marketing and collaboration ideas. The SSEF committee is entirely led by high-school-aged students, creating as place where students can give back to the world around them by contributing their ideas and skills in our committee.

Supporting Education in South Sudan
Statistics
- 37.6% of primary school aged children are enrolled in an education facility. This shows us that more than half of the children eligible for education are not receiving it. - southsudan.un.org
- South Sudan has 8,000 primary schools and only 120 secondary schools, meaning that the majority of primary school graduates are not attending secondary school. - UNICEF
- 2.8 Million children remain out of school. -jubaechotv.com.ss
Right now
Education in South Sudan faces significant difficulties due to infrastructure constraints, limited resources, and the lasting impacts of conflict. Many communities have restricted access to schools, learning materials, and trained teachers. Supporting education initiatives such as South Sudan Education Fund (SSEF) or Rumbek East Educational Fund (REEF) can help expand learning opportunities and build a stronger education system in South Sudan.
Donations
Currently the South Sudan Education Fund Committee is working towards finding a link with a reputable educational institution in South Sudan to send our collected funds to, once our funds have been channelled, the website will be updated.
This means that funds will go
towards textbooks, better pay for teachers or upgrading the classroom fabrication.
